Some weeks during this summer, you’ll see the trees on Blackstone Boulevard surrounded by little green islands of longer grass. Small trees have thin bark and are easily damaged. So the Conservancy and the Parks Dept are trying a new management practice – less frequent trimming and mowing at the base of the trees. A lighter schedule for trimming around these trees will allow more time for careful mowing and trimming. For now, the Parks Department mowing crews will trim every third visit.
