On Saturday, November 16, the full moon’s orbit brought it very close to the earth. Consequently the moon, and the night, were very bright. Around 5 PM the moon peeked up into a lightly clouded sky. It rose as a large orange orb that turned yellow and finally brilliant white.
In Blackstone Park, all this was watched closely by over a hundred people standing on the banks of the Seekonk River. People gazed at the moon through telescopes provided by the Skyscrapers, a group of astronomers eager to share their enthusiasm for exploring earth’s celestial neighbors.
It takes a while for the moon to rise and the waiting was smoothed along by Joe’s Backyard Band playing an upbeat medley of established hits, including “Blue Moon” and “Dancing in the Moonlight”.
We thank the Skyscrapers, Joe’s Backyard Band, and the Moon for making last night such a successful event.

We are already planning our next Moonrise on the Seekonk event, for Saturday, April 12, 2025.
