Bird Walk on Tuesday, February 18, 9-10 am

Our friends at the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and the Providence Urban Conservation Partnership are planning a free bird walk at Blackstone Field on Tuesday, February 18, 9-10 am.  We are pleased to share their announcement:
Join naturalists from the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and the Providence Urban Conservation Partnership for a free bird walk in Providence on Tuesday, February 18, 9-10 am.
We are meeting at Blackstone Park, a lovely gem located along the Seekonk River. We will gather in Blackstone Field, on River Drive, right across from the Narragansett Boat Club building.
This is during school vacation week, so feel free to bring the whole family.
Our rain/ snow date will be Wednesday, February 19, 9-10 am.
Location information:
Along River Drive, it is paved, relatively flat and there is a sidewalk that runs along one side of the road. We typically stay near the water, so the majority of this walk will be accessible. Here is a link to the Blackstone Park accessibility information, courtesy of Birdability.
We encourage you to walk, bicycle, carpool or take public transit if you are able to. The RIPTA bus Route #40 makes a stop at Angell and Elmgrove. If you walk down Angell for 4 long blocks (stay to the left when it forks at Wayland Avenue), you will hit River Drive, and will see our meeting spot to the left.
If driving, you can park anywhere along River Drive between Angel Street and Irving Avenue.
Some safety recommendations:
– Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes.
– We encourage you to bring your own equipment, such as binoculars and field guides, but we will have some available to borrow as well.
– Many of us have been dealing with pesky winter colds; please wear a mask if you are symptomatic, but do feel free to join us if you are feeling up to it.
